About the Group.

The Ramblers enjoy a wide range of walks, typically between 5 and 6 miles in length, over varying terrains, usually within one-hour travel from Comber. Since the group’s instigation, walks have been chosen from over 30 routes with different degrees of difficulty.

Walks are chosen and led by members and a walking programme for the year is posted on the website. This details the length of each walk together with a description of the terrain and meeting arrangements.

Hi Ramblers

Firstly should you no longer wish to be on the Ramblers mailing list please let me know so you don’t receive unwanted emails.

Group Leader Role.

To ensure the Ramblers continue into 2026 there will be a more collective approach to how we organise walks. We need individual members to volunteer to lead walks throughout the year,  provisional dates for the next 6 months listed below.  A number of Ramblers have already expressed their willingness to lead walks which is great.

Have a look at the dates and let me know if you are available to lead 1 or more walks.  For me to organise a schedule can you give me several dates giving your preference.

This is an opportunity for individual Ramblers to select their favourite walk, new walks for the group are always welcome.  I have a bank of walks to assist anyone with a selection.  If you have a walk in mind please let me know or you may wish to leave it closer to the time.  Just for clarity I will continue to send emails in consultation with the walk leader.  I still hope to attend most walks throughout the next 6 months.

The most important issue for anyone agreeing to lead a walk is they are familiar with the route including obstacles along the way.  Included in the bank of walks is some very straightforward ones which you could choose.

Bob Bell, Group Leader.

Previous Walks.

The last Comber U3A Ramblers walk was on Monday 25 May 2026 when 13 Ramblers enjoyed a walk around Scrabo Country Park in fine weather.  Thanks to Richard Middleton for leading this walk.

Clandeboye, 15 December 2025.

Members enjoyed a walk around the Clandboye woods, followed by an enjoyable afternoon tea with musical entertainment in Clandeboye golf Club, during which a presentation was made to Bob Bell as thanks for his leadership of the Ramblers Group over many years.

Cairn Wood, 1 December 2025

The last Ramblers walk was on Monday 1st December 2025 at Cairn wood, we managed the walk in reasonably fine conditions with only a short rain shower at the start. It was interesting to see the number of recently fallen trees due to the frequent storms.

Provisional Schedule for walks to mid-2026.
