| Corporate Plan 2025 - 2029 Advocate | Empower | Change To make Northern Ireland a great place to age I am pleased to share my first Corporate Plan (2025–2029), which sets out the priorities that will guide my work over the coming years. Northern Ireland is on course to becoming the oldest region in the UK by 2050. And by 2040, the number of people reaching retirement age will exceed those entering the workforce. This demographic shift brings both challenge and opportunity and it demands leadership that not only protects older people's rights but champions their value and contribution to society. At a time of demographic change, strong, independent advocacy for older people has never been more important. As Commissioner, I am deeply committed to ensuring older people are heard, respected and properly represented in the decisions that affect their lives. When I began my role as Commissioner for Older People, I was clear that my priorities could not be set from behind a desk. Early in my term, I made listening to older people and those who work with and for them, a priority. This included a public survey, direct engagement with older people at events and meetings across Northern Ireland, and discussions with organisations from across the statutory, community and voluntary sectors. What you told us was clear. Access to services, safety, tackling ageism, and being heard matter deeply. Whether you contributed directly to this engagement, supported participation, or work closely with older people in your role, I would like to thank you. The insights shared through this process have directly shaped the priorities and outcomes set out in this Corporate Plan. My plan focuses on three areas: Advocating for change to support people to age well, including in health and social care, housing, transport and community planning; Empowering older people to have choice and control in their lives, by promoting rights, access to information and advocacy; Changing how we all think, feel and act towards older people and ageing, by challenging ageism and promoting a culture that values older people. This Corporate Plan is the framework that will guide my office's work over the next four years.
